There's The Gherkin. The Walkie-Talkie. London's buildings seem to have the best, most innovative nicknames based on their appearance. There's also The Cheesegrater, as The Leadenhall Building is affectionately known. This one, by the way, is taller than the former two, shooting up 225 metres (or 737 feet) into the air, at a stunning 10-degree angle. Hence its nickname. Towering above London, this bold structure is a superb place for all sorts of events from talks to drinks receptions to Christmas parties.
There are 45 floors to the Leadenhall Building, but the 42nd floor is where the fun really happens. It's known as Landing Forty Two, and it's one of The City's most incredible venues, thanks in part to its panoramic views: you can actually see six counties from your viewpoint. And the views will kick in while you're travelling up to the 42nd floor, as you're whisked upwards in the fastest scenic lifts in Europe. Don't hang about, though – you'll be all the way up in 30 seconds flat.
First opening its doors just in 2015, Landing Forty Two is an impressively contemporary space with all the amenities you'd expect from a modern venue. Its atmospheric LED lighting and in-built sound system adds to the party ambience. Space is also not an issue: the 5,000 square foot venue welcomes up to 300 standing or 220 seated guests for events of all kinds, from conferences to receptions. Whatever the function, natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows will keep spirits high, and the temperature will stay well-regulated thanks to the "triple-layer glass skin" – a real architectural innovation.
Landing Forty Two makes for a charming and classy place in which to spend your Christmas party, especially thanks to the enticing packages available, for lunch or dinnertime. There'll be warming Christmas theming and decorations, illuminations with the LED lighting, and a dance floor and DJ, not to mention a Prosecco reception and unlimited beer and wine for a certain period.
Teaming up with their events caterer, Moving Venue, the team will also offer canapé, bowl food or sit-down menus, depending on the desired feel of the event. Guests could be able to dig into such canapés as chilli crab cakes with lime dipping sauce, and curried turkey with crispy shallots on toasts; bowl foods like Cornish stone bass with coriander orzo, and sticky braised beef with creamy mushroom polenta; and desserts like the mini Christmas pudding rum and raisin chocolate parfait.
Incidentally, we're such big fans of Landing Forty Two that we hosted the 2017 Hire Space Awards there. It was a fantastic evening that celebrated the very best in the events industry. We recognised the UK's best venues with awards, along side those who work hard to organise incredible events from the Events Team of the Year to the Unsung Heroes. The evening was a smashing success and the absolutely breath taking night time view of London was a wonderful setting.
