Once known as the Post Office Railway, Mail Rail operated from 1927 until 2003. The driverless underground railway served nine sorting offices between Paddington and Whitechapel, moving up to 4 million letters a day through the heart of London, 70 feet below ground level. Based at one of the most important mail stops, the sorting office at Mount Pleasant in Farringdon, is the Postal Museum.
In 2017, The Postal Museum was opened to allow the public to share its legacy. Visitors and event guests of the museum can experience Mail Rail, a pioneering postal mechanism from the pre-Internet era in the form of 15-minute tours through the historical tunnels .
The Postal Museum is a stunning events venue for up to 275 people. If you need a unique venue, there's truly nothing like having your party, product launch, photo shoot or networking event, 70 feet underground, in a 100-year-old tunnel.
The space is the perfect venue for immersive and experiential events. Last year it was converted into a tennis court for Andy Murray's secret warm-up for Wimbledon.
Not all of the spaces at the venue are underground. On ground level, the Postal Museum has a contemporary outdoor courtyard space accommodating up to 140 people.
